(01) What it does

Hosts move sites to newer PHP versions. A plugin that still uses something PHP has removed can then take the whole site down. Oskuvi PHP Compatibility Scan reads the code of your plugins and themes and tells you, before the switch, what would stop working: per plugin, with the file, the line and the reason.

Choose a target from PHP 7.4 to 8.5. The scan runs in small steps of a few seconds each, so it stays inside the time and memory limits of ordinary hosting, and you can stop it and continue later.

The checks come from the open-source PHPCompatibility project, run by PHP_CodeSniffer, and everything runs on your own server. Nothing is sent anywhere, and there is no account.

(02)Who it's for

Made for people like these.

  • Site owners whose host has announced a move to a newer PHP version.
  • Anyone who looks after a WordPress site and has to decide when it is safe to switch.
  • Networks of sites (multisite), where one plugin can affect every site.

(03)Key features

What's in it, feature by feature.

  • 01

    Knows current PHP

    Check against PHP 7.4, 8.0, 8.1, 8.2, 8.3, 8.4 or 8.5.

  • 02

    Doesn't get stuck

Small steps of a few seconds. A file the server can't handle is reported as “not checked” and the scan goes on; a very large file gets a step of its own. Closing the window loses nothing.

  • 03

A report that says what to do first

Errors are kept apart from warnings, plugins with errors come first, and every finding names the file and the line. Code problems that have nothing to do with the PHP version are listed apart.

  • 04

Scans what runs on your site

The active plugins and theme by default, or everything installed. Folders whose code never runs on a site, like node_modules and bundled test suites, are left out.

  • 05

    Stays on your site

Nothing is sent anywhere. There is no account and no outside service, and it runs none of the scanned code.

(04)FAQ

Questions, answered.

Does the scan change anything on my site?

No. It reads the files of your plugins and themes and stores its report in the database. Nothing else is written, and no code of the scanned plugins is run.

The scan found errors in a plugin. What now?

First update the plugin: its newest version may already be fixed. If the errors remain, ask the plugin's author, and don't switch PHP versions until they are fixed or the plugin is replaced.

Is a clean result a guarantee?

No. A scan reads code without running it, which is why it is safe on a live site. A result with no problems is a strong sign, not a guarantee, so test the new PHP version on a staging copy of the site before you switch.

Does it check WordPress itself?

No. WordPress core follows new PHP versions closely, so keep WordPress up to date. The scan covers your plugins and themes.

The checks come from the open-source PHPCompatibility project (LGPL 3.0 or later), run by PHP_CodeSniffer (BSD 3-Clause) with PHPCSUtils (LGPL 3.0 or later); the plugin bundles them under those licences. WordPress is a trademark of the WordPress Foundation.
