Secure healthcare software for Canadian providers

Patient-facing apps, portals and telehealth tools designed to protect personal health information under PIPEDA and provincial laws such as Ontario's PHIPA.

(01) The landscape

Healthcare technology has to do two things at once: make care more accessible and efficient, and protect the most sensitive data people have. We build secure apps and platforms with encryption, strict access control and audit trails as defaults.

In Canada that means designing for PIPEDA and provincial health-privacy laws — for example Ontario's Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) for health information custodians. For clients serving US patients, we also design for HIPAA requirements.

(02)Challenges

What makes healthcare technology hard.

  • 01

    Strict privacy obligations

Personal health information is regulated federally and provincially, with serious penalties for breaches.

  • 02

    Fragmented systems

Clinical, scheduling and billing systems rarely share data cleanly.

  • 03

    Diverse users

Patients, caregivers and clinicians have very different needs — and accessibility requirements.

  • 04

    Trust

One security incident can undo years of reputation.

(03)What we build

Solutions for healthcare businesses.

  • Patient & caregiver apps

Accessible apps for engagement, education and support — including tools for families.

  • Telehealth & portals

Secure remote interactions, booking and document exchange.

  • Interoperability

Integrations between clinical and business systems using APIs and healthcare data standards.

  • Security by design

Encryption, least-privilege access, audit logs and breach-readiness from the first sprint.

(04)How we deliver

Development, UX, QA and operations for healthcare.

The same four capabilities on every project, applied to the realities of this sector.

  1. Development

Patient and caregiver apps, portals and integrations, built with AI-assisted engineering and a security review at each step.

  2. UI/UX

Accessible journeys for patients, caregivers and clinicians, with clear consent, permission and error states.

  3. QA

Testing role-based access, consent flows, audit logging and integration failures, alongside accessibility checks.

  4. Operations

Audit logs, monitoring, backups and tested recovery, with access reviews and controlled releases.

How we build with AI

Choose how AI is used while we build.

Projects handling personal health information may call for a private AI environment. We confirm the requirements with your privacy officer before the package is chosen.

(05)Compliance

Regulations we design for.

Not legal advice — but the technical safeguards we build in from the first sprint, so compliance isn't a last-minute scramble.

  • PHIPA (Ontario)

Applies to health information custodians such as physicians, hospitals, pharmacies and labs; organizations face fines up to $1M and administrative penalties up to $500,000.

  • PIPEDA

Federal private-sector privacy law, including mandatory breach reporting when there's a real risk of significant harm.

  • HIPAA (US clients)

For products serving US patients, we design for HIPAA safeguards alongside Canadian requirements.

The NbN app — search and filter screens

ECNP – Neuroscience-based Nomenclature· Healthcare· Mobile app

NbN: the international app for a new nomenclature of psychotropic medications

NbN is an international scientific initiative that classifies psychotropic medications by pharmacology and mode of action. We develop the new version of its iOS and Android app, its admin panel and its backend.

  • Fast lookup across the medication database, with filters by axis
  • Separate paths for adults and for children and adolescents
  • An admin panel the scientific team uses to update content without a new release

(07)FAQ

Healthcare software: your questions.

Do you build PHIPA-compliant software?

We build the technical safeguards PHIPA and PIPEDA expect — encryption, access control, audit logging, data minimization and breach detection — and work with your privacy officer or counsel on policies and legal interpretation.

Have you built healthcare products before?

Yes. We were part of the web-app development team for 2gether, an app that helps families cope with Alzheimer's and dementia, and built the website for Physioroom, a centre focused on quality of life for people aged 60+.

Can you integrate with existing clinical systems?

Yes. We design integrations around each system's available interfaces and healthcare data standards, with security reviews at every step.
