# What a Daily Digital Report Should Include (and Why Monthly Summaries Fail)

> A short daily report on your website, campaigns and sales lets you fix problems the same day instead of finding them at month end. What belongs in it and how to build one.

Most businesses get a monthly summary from their digital vendors. By the time it arrives, a campaign that stopped working has burned three weeks of budget, and a broken form has cost dozens of enquiries.

A daily report fixes that. It is short, it arrives every morning, and it lets you correct course the same day.

## What must be in it

**What was done yesterday.** A short list: what went live on the site, what changed in the campaigns, what was published on social, which faults were fixed.

**The numbers that matter, against an average.** Enquiries or orders, ad spend and site traffic. A number alone says nothing. "12 enquiries, against an average of 9" says a lot.

**What is unusual.** A sharp drop, a campaign that stopped, a page that is down. If you read only one thing, read this.

**What is planned for today.** Two or three tasks.

**What is waiting for your decision.** A budget, an ad to approve, a price. So that work doesn't stall.

## What to leave out

- Long tables. They belong in the dashboard.
- Every metric that can be measured. Include only what changes a decision.
- Explanations of what didn't change.

## How to build one

**Connect the sources.** Website, analytics, ad platforms, the store or the CRM.

**Define what counts as unusual.** For example, a drop of more than a third against the weekly average.

**Let an AI agent collect and summarize.** This is one of the tasks agents do best. More examples are in [AI agents for small business](https://npcoding.ca/blog/ai-agents-for-small-business/).

**Have a person review it.** Someone who knows the business adds the context the numbers don't show.

## Daily report and dashboard

The report is what you read with your coffee. The dashboard is where you go when you want the whole picture, or to approve something or ask for a change.

Both are part of how we work: an [Outsourced AI Team](https://npcoding.ca/services/outsource-developers/) that looks after your whole digital operation, sends a report every morning and manages everything from one dashboard. If you are still paying several suppliers, read about [vendor sprawl](https://npcoding.ca/blog/vendor-sprawl-cost-of-digital-vendors/) first.

## Frequently asked questions

### How long should a daily report take to read?

Up to two minutes. If it takes longer, it contains too much. A daily report answers three questions: what was done yesterday, what changed in the numbers and what is planned for today.

### Who writes the report?

Today an AI agent does the collecting and summarizing, and a person who knows the business reviews it and adds what matters. That way the report arrives every morning without costing anyone an hour.

### Does a daily report replace a dashboard?

No, they complement each other. The report says what matters today, and the dashboard shows the full picture for anyone who wants to dig in.

### What if there is nothing to report?

Say so in one line. A short report on a quiet day is better than a padded one.
