Every business has work that repeats: collecting numbers, drafting, checking, updating. That is exactly the work AI agents do well today. Here are seven processes to start with.

## 1. The morning report

Each morning the agent pulls the numbers from your website, campaigns and sales and sums up what changed in a few lines. Instead of opening five tools, you read one report.

## 2. Sorting enquiries and leads

The agent reads every enquiry that comes in, classifies it by topic and urgency and passes it to the right person with a short summary.

## 3. First responses to customers

An immediate answer to the questions that repeat: order status, hours, return policy. Anything the agent is unsure about goes to a person.

## 4. Campaign monitoring

A daily check of your Google and Meta campaigns: which search terms waste budget, which ads have weakened. The agent proposes changes, and a person approves anything that touches the budget.

## 5. Content and SEO

Keyword research, article drafts, internal links and technical fixes on the site. A human editor reads and approves before anything is published.

## 6. Catalogue and inventory updates

For an online store: updating descriptions, prices and stock from a supplier file, and flagging products with no image or no price.

## 7. Software testing

Writing and running automated tests after every code change, and reporting what broke.

## What you need to start

**A well-defined task.** This is prompt engineering: what to do, with which information, and what is off limits. The more precise the definition, the better the output.

**Narrow access.** The agent gets access only to what the task needs.

**A person who checks.** At first, review every output. Once the process is stable, move to spot checks.

## Alone or with a team

You can set up one agent yourself. When you want agents working across several areas at once, such as your website, marketing and operations, someone has to manage them. We cover that in [AI services for business in 2026](https://npcoding.ca/blog/ai-services-for-business-2026/).

We build agents and automation as part of our [AI agents and automation](https://npcoding.ca/services/ai-development/) service, and run them for clients through our [Outsourced AI Team](https://npcoding.ca/services/outsource-developers/).

## Frequently asked questions

### What is the difference between an AI agent and a chatbot?

A chatbot answers questions. An AI agent carries out a task in several steps: it reads data, uses tools, produces a result and hands it back for review. It works rather than only talks.

### Do we need developers to use an AI agent?

For a simple process, you need a person who can define the task and check the output. When the agent has to connect to your systems, such as a CRM, payments or inventory, the integration needs development.

### Is it safe?

When the agent has narrow permissions and a person approves sensitive actions, yes. Don't give an agent free access to money, prices or the ability to delete data.

### Which process should we start with?

The one that repeats most often and whose output is easy to check, such as a weekly report or sorting enquiries.
